In the moment of truth...
What do you tell yourself when you are pulling back your bow on a deer? Is there a particular sequence you go through or anything like that?

Me to. I dont have a plan, or really any thoughts at all, If I already decided to take a shot, it all just kind of happens.

Re: In the moment of truth...
Once the decision has been made I am going to kill I don't stop staring a hole thru the deer where my arrow is going to hit. I concentrate on entry and exit holes, take deep breaths, and wait until the moment is over.
That's my fancy way of saying "auto pilot" for the most part. I'm always aware of what is happening but it's usually AFTER I"ve shot.

Re: In the moment of truth...
I go into kill mode. I concentrate on getting an arrow into the vitals. I don't get buck fever so I can stay composed to execute the shot. My SOP would be; spot the buck, stand up, size him up, stick an arrow in him.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: In the moment of truth...
I remember what I thought one time. It would have been my first deer with a bow.
Everything was perfect. The deer was passing my position at like 7 yards. I drew back, and thought " I can't wait to tell everyone about the deer I got!"
Then I missed.... That'll teach me. You aint got nothing till you got something in your hands.
Since then I have refined my methods....

A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

He didn't say he dosen't get a rush, he said he dosen't get "buck fever" I take "buck fever" to mean, you get shaken so bad, you can't function properly.
