What a person is certain will bring a quick, clean humane kill is a choice each individual must make, but I don't think waiting for an ethical shot is candy coating hunting.

I agree with that. But killing animals aint purdy.

Kenn, hunt how you like and shoot the shots that you like and are comfortable with.

I know that's how I do it, and I will put my recovery rate on shot deer up against anyone else's.....

If you think there is a right way or wrong way to hunt or determine when to take a shot I believe you are wrong.

It's up to each and every hunter to decide for himself.

Opinions vary Marty and I agree with most of the shot placement articles I have read. Interesting that you have been successful going against the grain, but I read far too many posts on the net, or hear story's of lost game. When I hear the shot that was taken, most of the time I do not need to hear anymore of the story. I saw your 60yd challenge Marty and would enjoy shooting a round with ya some time. However for many, that type of accuracy is not achieved. When posts get made that talk about "low percentage shots" and how it worked out, they more often then not encourage others to try it. As the saying goes, what works for you, might not work for the next guy. I have lost a couple deer over the years, and it makes me sick to my stomach not knowing if the deer lived or died. I only advocate high percentage shots, but as you said its up to the hunter to decide what is right or wrong. It is the hunter that must live with the outcome of his/her decisions.

I don't know if I would go that far Zap. I know a guy that gut shoots deer intentionally. He insists it's a good shot to take because he always finds them. I don't agree with anybody that say's it's ok to intentionally stick a broadhead into the guts. That's garbage IMO. This is the kind of guy that would just as soon shove 7" blade into a dogs belly than waste a bullet or the money to have it put down humanely. Needless to say I can't stand the guy.

Kind of hard to say where to draw the line on what is ethical ........there are too many differant opinion's.

But I would say that if you feel there is a high percentage chance of a quick humane kill your on the right path.

That's the kind of stuff P.E.T.A. loves to use for their case against all hunting and especially bowhunting. Why make a deer suffer needlessly.
Sounds like somebody that cannot make a good shot so he uses that for an excuse. That guy is a complete moron in my eyes!!
