In my home state of MD, is certain counties we have a small "deer", that more resembles an elk. The Sika Deer are not the same as you see in high fences in TX, ther are wild free range deer.
Ive been hooked hunting these hard animals for the past 5 season, however I have never bowhunted them. It some tuff terrian as they live in the vast marshes of the lower eastern shore off the cheasapeke bay.
They do not compete with whitetails as this nasty area does not hold whiettails. A mature sika "stag" weighs around 80 lbs, and have 5-6 points. They do not get any bigger, although ive heard rumors of 8 points.
Hearing a sika stag buggle on a cool evening will get the hairs on your neck standing up!
These weekend we have decided to go hunt sika deer, all public land.
Below is a good read about them.

Re: Hunting little marsh elk
My point is I would consider shooting a rage at a smaller critter such as this, but I prefer Muzzy's for hunting big bucks

Street cred plus 1 muzzys bad to the bone.
I'd like to see a beautiful muzzy 3 blade hole through the side of one of those creatures. Good luck Brandon. Look forward to seeing a report of a kill.

Re: Hunting little marsh elk
No kill, but you guys are funny.
1 fact.. a 80lb sika is WAAAAY harder to kill than a whitetail.
they live in the marsh, mostly 8ft or taller grass.. and they have a shaggy coat that soaks blood. They run and run and run.
For you guys bickering thinking these are eassier to kill becasue of there body weight very sadly mistaken. That couldnt be further form the truth.
Not to mention tracking through water...
