Deer manager interviews

Unread postby Carol » Sun Sep 11, 2011 1:27 pm

The Department of Natural Resources will interview three applicants Sept. 23 in Madison for the position of big-game specialist. The agency conducted a national search to fill the position, which has been vacant since December. Keith Warnke was the last to fill the role; he transferred to a hunting recruitment and retention position in the Bureau of Law Enforcement.

The big-game specialist is arguably the agency's highest profile position and oversees management of white-tailed deer, black bear and elk in Wisconsin. Bill Vander Zouwen, chief of wildlife ecology, said the candidates would be interviewed by a panel, including a DNR wildlife manager, a wildlife biologist, a chronic wasting disease specialist and a delegate of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress.
