Need A Kitchen Pass?

Unread postby Singing Bridge » Tue Aug 30, 2011 11:18 am

How many of you guys need a kitchen pass before you go deer hunting... and if you do, do you have the courage to post it here? Over the years I have seldom needed one, but there are circumstances that have led to me getting one! ;) Some of those circumstances have included my hunting conflicting with "concerts" at school for my daughter and the like, major family events or tight finances at home...

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, the Kitchen Pass (KP) I am referring to is the act of getting the OK (permission, lets be honest!) from the spouse or significant other to go hunting. I have hunting buddies on both ends of the spectrum, one that couldn't care less and never asks his wife- and another that has to ask permission for every move he makes all season long!

Bowhunting big whitetail bucks has been my passion for decades. It may be wrong but I revolved everything I did around that. I'm not as aggressive as I used to be. I always hunted every day of bow season until I tagged out or it was over. Not any more, the sands of time have eroded my desire and my physical being. I still love hanging one on the wall though. So no I never asked to go hunting, merely said I was going.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I don't ever need a kitchen pass because my wife bow hunts with me. 8-)

Beings I'm the kid care provider I pretty much only need to ask, but I don't abuse that privilege. If it's not ideal conditions I hang out at home.

Hunting is not number one, two, or three in my life anymore, and life is good.

Christ, family, family, and then hunting... except during the rut when I say my prayers and do a devotional in the tree.

I'm pretty lucky, my wife takes time off for me to go hunting several times a year, but then again, our diaper changing, meal making, house cleaning, laundry doing ratios are seriously skewed in my direction.

But she makes the bacon, so I can't really go on strike!

My wife does not complain at all about how much time I spend hunting. She knows I went alot before she met me....go alot while we are together...and will go alot after she leaves me. :D Seriously though, she has never had a problem with me going. I could be in a bar or something, which I never do, so she is happy with the alternative. I make sure I spend lots of time with my wife and kids in the off-season doing what they want etc....but come sept-dec. well that is my time. They understand my need to go. My kids are just beghinning to hunt so they will be spending alot more time with me huntin. So that will give her some time to herself...which she certainly deserves and needs. I am a lucky dude!
