I hear you.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I don't understand this mentality.
I have several times passed up deer in early season thinking that I would surely shoot them late season if given a chance and freezer space. The main reason I pass deer is to stay afield longer not because my standards are high. - last year I shot a two year old on my last chance to hunt in WI. for the year, I had passed several larger deer prior.
Several seasons ago I passed a real nice deer in the Poper minimum class. It was too early to shoot another buck like that when there may have been something else around, but had I had a shot at him late season I would have probably mounted him or at least made a nice Euro.
I too have had close calls on deer with-out getting an opportunity only to kill them on a later outing.
Never shoot one the last day you'd pass the first day or never pass one the first day you'd shoot the last day!

Not in a season, but in the same day. I passed the buck in my avatar pic early in the morning just after legal shooting hours because of how narrow he appeared. When he wandered back through at around 1:00 and I was able to see he was a 200 lb-er it convinced me to let him have it.

Pictures required for that post.

The trail cam pics make his body look small. When i shot him he was anything but small.I have his left shed from the year before and he didnt grow 2 inches.I actually shot this deer on the same farm 2 years later.
