I hunt high and am generally very close to the deer when they arrive. Some places I can't see a whole lot farther than that or don't have the clearance for a shot.

I once hunted a location in a swamp where I had to slide my boot back slightly so I wouldn't shoot my toes off shooting down at a buck almost directly below me. It wasn't ideal, but due to his approach, the cover and the wind direction I was able to slip in there and whack a buck.....at maybe two-yards off the trail. The shot angle is tough and you have to know your limitations and be confident. If the tree you need to be in is almost on top of the trail, then that may be your only option. Just remember, chances are it will only be a one-and-done set-up on a mature buck since you are leaving scent right on the runway he intends to utilize.
