Ok the first buck I shot in 2008, he scored 121", I never weighed him or had him aged but based on what our deer heard is like and what I have seen over the years, I always assumed he was 3.5
The second buck is last years kill, never had him weighed, but, the "tag specialist" at the check station said he was 3.5 when I brought him the jaw bone, I was assuming he was definetly a mature deer and when I said "are you sure hes not at least 4.5?" they said "well yeah I guess he could be" what a great help they were, but hey they probably make peanuts to look at dead deer all night.....He scored 142"
I know these deer are both dead and gutted but a lot of you guys have a lot of years and experience, any one have a guess as to an age? Ever since they told me 3.5 it kind of made me think, if he was 3.5 then was my first buck only 2.5?
The body on last years deer had a substantially deep chest, meaning from his back bone to his armpits was deeper, opr thicker than any deer ive ever killed. I thought that was a sign of maturity, but who knows, any guesses?
First buck- 2.5 or 3.5?
I forgot I had these two still with the guts in......
Second Buck 3.5 or 4.5?
Any guesses as to how old these DEAD bucks are?

I would say the top one is 3.5 but some may say 2.5. He just looks like too good of 2.5 year old to me. The bottom one is tough, I agree with you and tend to think 4.5 but I can see where he would also look similar to the 3.5. I am not much help, I shot a buck last year that was 16 inches wide and I thought he was a 3.5 year old all along, one guy argued up and down and swore he was a 2.5 so we had him aged and he was indeed 3.5. They would be easier to tell if they were standing, but you did what I did and put an end to that! All I can say for certain is they are nice bucks and I would have shot too!

New York. And we don't grow 140 inch 2 year olds under any circumstances.
2.5 year olds in my area acre typically 40-80 inches, 3 year olds are typically 100-120 inches.
Pleas don't confuse these deer to be anything like the midwest bucks you guys are used to seeing. We don't get to many deer over 200lbs field dressed around here.

I have never hunted NY so I can't give an honest guess.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Any guesses as to how old these DEAD bucks are?
So hard to tell from those pics. I have seen guys here with years of trail cam pics of bucks from 1 1/2 all the way thru 3 1/2 and there was no noticable differance between the 2 and 3 year old pics. With out tooth checks its hard but I would guess the top one to be as old or older than the bottom one. 2.5-3.5. Not really sure about south ny deer, but I hunted southern ct bucks a few years and they are to me the same size as Maine deer, I had a freind shoot a 287lb dressed 10 pointer dressed! I shot a 232lb dressed 8 pointer there. Nice bucks Fox.

Wow those ar some big deer. I know Long Island produces big bodied deer like that, but the heaviest buck I know of havested in this county was 240lbs field dressed and scored 178". Just a real freak of a buck.
I know that 15-20 years ago our deer were big like that bout now, we have such a deer density problem that I don't think there is enough food to go around.
