What do you think this growth is on the buck?

Unread postby lynchpin » Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:51 am

Took this video earlier this summer of the buck. If you look just below the left eye ... he a golf ball size growth or inflammatory response. Has anyone seen this before? What do you think caused it?

I've seen it before a couple of times too. I always thought it was a tick that was embedded that the deer could not remove. I've seen a similar deal on a dog one time, and it was a tick. With deer, it is always on a spot on their face that they cannot get the tick out. I'm not sure if that is exactly what it is, but I've never seen a deer with that outside of summer months, so I just figured it was at least insect related. 2 years ago I watched a buck all summer that had one just like that. I saw him in late October while hunting, and it was completely gone.

could also be an injury from sparing last year. I have heard of pieces of antler breaking off in another deer they are fighting. I see his right side is smaller than his left, leaves me to believe he has had it for a while. I have noticed deer with left side injuries have deformations in their right antler and vice versa.

Not sure what it is . Have seen some weird growths over the years like this one. Even the rabbit was grossed out by this. LOL

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

 maybe it's an infected injury...like a puss-ball or something? probably a tumor though....One time I shot an 11 pointer with the gun and he had a huge egg on his head from where he took a tine to the scalp during a fight. I sawed the rack off through the goose egg and it pussed everywhere :|
