GFY those dates look right to me. Like Black Squirel said the moon effect will be a little stronger when it is overhead vs underfoot but the underfoot days could work too.

Okay that is good to know. I didn't realize that the effect was more prevalent when the moon was overhead compared to underfoot.

Thanks guys. I still am glad I ordered the chart. Perhaps next year I won't need to.

I don't have any personal experience to back that up but I know Dan has said that a few times in past moon threads. It also makes more sense from a scientific standpoint as the gravitational pull from the moon would be stronger overhead vs underfoot. :ugeek: 8-)

I also just found this. It allows you to get the moon tranist times for the whole hunting season in one search. This will save a lot of time and also let you compare all the data on one sheet.

One question I don't think was answered is that is the time the moon is under foot excatly 12 hours after the transit times?

:D Think of it this way, when the moon is underfoot it is roughly 8000miles further away so it has potentially less gravitational pull. So maybe that makes a difference maybe not, honestly I have no idea just kind of throwing it out there based on a lot of people saying the moon overhead is a better time to be in the woods.

GFY if my calculations are right the underfoot time would be 12 hours and 28 minutes before the overhead time.

I noticed thats what it was on the two dates you calculated, but is it always like that, or does it change depending on time of year, season, etc...

I have no idea, so Im curious..

Actually it could change from season to season because the moon's orbit is elliptical. Ok so I ran the numbers for November.

My Area:
Nov 5th Moon Transit - 9:39pm
Nov 6th Moon Transit - 9:20pm

So the overall time from transit to transit went from 24 hours and 56 minutes to 23 hours and 19 minutes.
Sooooo... the time to find the underfoot time went from 12 hours and 28 minutes to 11 hours and 41.5 minutes in two months. Not a huge difference but one to keep an eye on as we get closer to the rut.

Wow I'm sure learning a lot about the moon since joining the Beast!

I thought there might be a difference due to the elliptical orbit.. Nice job figuring that out!

I'm sure dan will post all the good moon days again this year once it gets closer to the season, so I wouldn't work too hard on figuring them all out..

save time from having to figure out the overhead time.

http://www.timeanddate.com/
Select tab Sun & Moon
Then Moon Calculator

Select the city closest to you

Then select tab see moonrise/moonset

The overhead time is in the Time Column

YOu can also change the month and year.

Coming into this one kind of late hope someone can get me up to speed...

"Moon transit" refers to when the moon is overhead? The best dates/times to hunt are when the moon is overhead within an hour or so after shooting hours start or an hour or so before shooting hours end? The gravitational pull is what urges these deer to move earlier at night and later in the morning? Also if the moon is overhead in the middle of the day it doesn't much matter because it was underfoot in the middle of the night which also triggers feeding and movement? Finally, for those who are all about the moon and how it affects your hunt you see good activity when the moon is underfoot close to opening or closing of shooting hrs too?

This is complicated to me and pretty foreign. I appreciate any and all help with it. I am ordering a moon guide chart right now but I'm the type of person who likes to figure our how/why something works not just that it does work and I should hunt when the chart says too...thanks for any break down/help from the moon guys!

Just placed my order with Jeff Murrays moonguide site can't wait to check it out.

Wondering the same thing..What BWH said is pretty much what Ive assumed, but it has always just been an assumption I guess, and I guess I am wondering the same thing as he is..
