I am mixed on this one Todd. I believe you 100%, simply because I have been following WKP long enough to know and from personal correspondence between us I am convinced you are not like other hunting celebs, you will only use products that work and that you personally want to use...not for sponsorship. Part of me wants to give it a whirl but the biggest part of me feels that I would be taking an element away from the hunt. I know they don't eliminate 100% however I wonder if eliminating their greatest defense take the sportsmanship out of it. Food for thought, what is your opinion?

It's interesting that hunters try to do everything they can to control scent but if they really could I kinda feel the same way as you. Would it be an unfair advantage? Would I feel the same sense of accomplishment if I got a deer this way? I'm not sure. I guess it's a personal decision. If someone else used a product that totally eliminated scent I would be alright with it. I don't know if it would fit my hunt.

Im with you guys in the fact that it would be a sad moment in deer hunting if the tables were turned on the deers nose... But I think the magic pixie dust folks would run to the stores and buy it, and I think they way out number us. So we can sit back and not go along and watch them kill huge bucks and brag about there skill or go along with it... Not sure what I would do.

Agreed, and I am not against those who use it, just kind of a hang up for me. On the other hand, I am not trying to produce two shows with two men in the tree. So Todd please don't feel that I am attacking the idea. On the flip side I have to ask myself if I am battling pride by not wanting to take this route. At the end of the day, I think it is more the desire to hone my skills and the excitement that comes from the unpredictability of it all. I have thought about purchasing an Ozonics unit just for deoderizing my clothing. Sure would be nice after a long day in the tree to not have to empty out all my stuff and wash my clothes then wait for the stuff to get dry. The additional sleep at night being ready to rock the next morning seems worth it to me. Even if you don't practice stringent scent control you don't want to be out there in clothes that smell like a bag full of bums

Now, we are more conscience about our scent, but with these in the tree you can stink like whatever you want cause they don't discriminate on what odors they destroy; they kill them all.

Don't eliminate 100% = Don't work...

Wow, it's been a while since I last posted on this site - long enough I suppose. Let me just add this, I probably bantered back and forth over 50 posts arguing that scent control matters down to the detergent you use, but at the end of the day I realized that what Dan had been telling me all along, "Play the wind, that's the only scent control you'll need!", was the secret ingredient... the rest was just hocus pocus. I argued that if you smelled less strong due to your scent control precautions (the pixie dust), you presence may not be as alarming as real strong scent... the truth is that no matter the strength of the smell, once your winded, your winded and that pretty much means your ######.

A hunter walks through the woods before light one morning and smells a fox, it's strong and he/she assumes it must have just been through the area. The hunter returns that afternoon on the way back to the truck and the smell has faded considerably so the hunters assumption must have been right... A deer has the same experience, only the deer crosses path with your scent and whether it was recent you had walked through or not, the deer doesn't "assume" anything, it just KNOWS that an unframiliar odor is imminant and their on their guard from then on. If that deer runs into your smell in the same area on more than a couple occasions, that deer may become conditioned to the area being a questionable area that it may stop visiting or passing through due to that fact.

Dan was right, scent matters little - it's all in how you play the wind!

I like those freeze dried foods. I have a small thermos I take hot water in and mix up the single and two serving meals.

I can usually find something edible in one of my pockets if I look hard enough.

One day during turkey season I found a king sized Snickers in the bottom of my back pack, it had melted and froze probably several times and was in the process of having a very rough turkey season down in the back pack bowels. It was like Christmas in April though and I gleefully ate that sucker on the spot!
