Here's what I came up with using a piece of string, a tape measure, and rounding to the nearest 1/4 inch for the most part. The pictures weren't the best, but sometimes when you see a buck in the field you don't get the best look at him either. I will post a couple more next week after I get back from musky fishing.

buck 1
beams 21.75 - 21.5
spread 19
g1 4.5 - 4.75
g2 8 - 8
g3 7.75 - 7

h1 5 - 4.75
h2 4.25 - 4.25
h3 4.25 - 4.25
h4 3.25 - 3.5

gross score 132 2/8

buck 2
beams 21.75 - 21.5
spread 20.5

g1 4.5 - 4.5
g2 6.75 - 7
g3 10.25 - 9.75
g4 6.75 - 6.5

h1 5.5 - 5.25
h2 5 - 5
h3 4.75 - 4.75
h4 3.75 - 3.75

gross score 153 4/8

Ok I want to keep my first guess of 129 and 152. :)

It is pretty amazing to see the wide variety of scores and even how a few different angles can really change a score.

I was way off I would have never thought that 8 went into the 30s, not even with all the pics of it, I would have said a 16" spread too. Wow I suck.

I was thinking along the same lines. My guess was strickly from the skull caps, in the other pics the 8 looked a little bigger...

Muddy, (no offence) where do you start your baseline for the tine measurements?

And your spread is the inside, right?

Are you taking the H measurements at the smallest place you can find? And on the 8, how did you know where on the beam to measure?

Did you measure the G1's from the front or back?

Rounding to the 1/4 inch???

I look at the side of the beam and draw a line with a pencil where the tine would end, like I've seen scorers do it at the Iowa deer classic.

Yup.

I went off the B&C scoring system on line. H1 is between burr and G1. H2 is between G2 and G3. H3 and H4 are beyond G3 (on an 8 pointer) evenly distanced from G3 and tip of beam. At least that's how I understood it when I read the directions.

Spysar wrote:Did you measure the G1's from the front or back?

I measured them along the outside of the tine from the base of the tine to the tip like I've seen scorers do it in person. I am under the impression that all tine and beam measurements are to be taken from the outside of the beam/tine.

Spysar wrote:Rounding to the 1/4 inch???

Yeah, I wasn't nitpicking when I measured as I had a shabby piece of string and my finger tips weren't likely EXACT when I did the measuring. Some of the measurements likely went up a touch while others got pinched down. I wasn't fudging it to make the buck look bigger by any means.

I can go back and remeasure a few things if you'd like, the B&C score sheet wants 3 or 4 different width measurements so I'm not sure what it spit out when I copy pasted the information to the previous post. Inside width, outside width, tip to tip width, etc.

Sounds good then....I've just seen so many people at the score table just about cry when they get the official score.

To measure a tine, you lay a cable on the TOP of the main beam, and try to draw an imaginary line as if the tine wasn't there. The B&C sheet makes it look like you measure to the middle of the main beam, which you don't...

The H measurements are between the tines. You have to seek out the SMALLEST spot you can find, by stretching a 1/4" steel tape around them.

G1's can be measured from the front or back, and the larger is used.

Of coarse you know racks are to the 1/8th, I'm just a picky bastard, hehe.

No harm no foul Spy. I may not know EXACTLY how to score them but I'd venture to guess I'm within a few inches of actual score.

Regardless, that 8 is closer to 130 than he is to 109!
