In Virginia you can trespass to retrieve game as long as you're not armed.

If you want to kill a deer you have to be in the woods.

In Wisconsin you can not tresspass to recover a deer. A warden or cop cannot even fetch it.
The land owner has the right of refusal.

Same in Ohio. The deer just goes to waste if the landowner won't let you retrieve it. The landowner isn't allowed to tag it also. In Ohio your not allowed to tag another persons deer.

The state law on recovery is a good thing to know...

In Iowa you can recover as long as you are unarmed without permission...
I shot a nice 8 point in S.W. Iowa and it died in the neighbors pasture and I drove thru an open gate right up to the buck and loaded it. When I was coming out a pick up truck came flying up and boxed me in... Two very angry looking Dudes got out and started yelling "what the %&@# you doing on my property! I explained that I shot a buck and it died in there pasture and I drove back to pick it up. Suddenly the angry Dudes started smiling and one said "Oh, your just deer hunting!" Sorry we bothered you.
Tell you one thing, it would never end like that in Wisconsin!
