What's more of a trophy to you?
We talk about hunting mature whitetail bucks.
Let's just say one year you shoot a 150" buck that aged an incredible 8.5 years old. Then let's say the next year you shoot a whopper 3.5 year old buck that scored over 200". Which buck is more of a trophy to you?
Just because this particular 3.5 year old scored over 200" doesn't make him any smarter than a 3.5 year old that scored 120" does it?

The 200"er. Some say the Milo Hanson buck is 3 1/2.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

I read that in an article and that's what got me thinking. What in your opinion is more rare: an 8.5 year old whitetail or a 200" whitetail?

I would say the 200"er as well, unless i could pick a 180" 5.5 yo!

Personally the best trophy is the deer i have to most history with, a 140" buck that ive got hundreds of pictures of and years of history vs. a 140" rut buck I know nothing about. To me the buck ive palyed cat and mouse with is the trophy!

200"er for sure because it is such a rare animal. If you take the same question and make it a little more realistic like say a 145" 3.5 year old or a 120" 8.5 year old I am pretty certain a lot of guys would opt for the older buck with less bone.

def the 200 incher. However if you were comparing a 8 1/2 yr old 130 class to a 150 3 1/2 I might be different. It all comes down to how I hunted that deer and what it looks like it my eyes. It all depends really.

They are both very rare trophies but I would have to pick the 200" since there have been so few actually killed.

Re: What's more of a trophy to you?
Both are trophies in my book. Also, it would depend on when and how they were killed. I get the most satisfaction out of an earned early season hunt, by off season scouting etc., than a gun season opener on a deer I've never seen before that was just traveling through.

For me it would depend on how, where and with what equipment I killed the animal.

Inches count. The young one. The biologists that have aged Larry Zach's 245 in non typ and Kyle Simmons 285 non typ say BOTH deer were 3.5.
