Unread postby Gardner Swamp » Fri Jun 24, 2011 3:32 pm

Thought it was time time to sharpen our aging skills!!
What do you guys/gals think?

1st the time on the camera is off about two hours
The 1st pic...His body looks small for a 2.5 but the rack looks bigger than 1.5
2nd deer could be 3.5
3rd 2.5
4th at least 3.5

I'll rock the boat;
1
3
1
4
The 1st two are not the same age. The third one would be a of 1 year old but I've seen bigger racked 1 year olds and that one's hinds look at least as big as his front which says 1 year old to me.

Good thread, always good exercise.

The 1st buck could be a yearling... the 3rd one I highly doubt it

The only really good pic to accurately (if there is such a thing) age any of thses deer is the first pic. And he looks 1.5, antler size really doesn't mean much when aging deer, unless you are in a really nutrient or genetically deprived area, that can easily be a 1.5 year old buck, his rump is soo much larger than his chest I doubt he would be 2.5.

The other pics don't have reliable angles to accurately say anything other than they appear to be older than 1.5.......

The third one has the narrowest abdoman on all the bucks shown, and you can say what you want about antlers not telling the age but look at his pedicals very small. I still say 2.5 but if any are 1.5 it would be him. I think the rump is a visual caused by the brush in front.
