Lets see some northwoods/big woods bucks!

Unread postby BackWoodsHunter » Tue Apr 12, 2011 10:28 am

Not sure if there are any other posts but as we are in the off season I have been day dreaming more and more of the ghosts that roam the northwoods. True giants and old bucks that roam miles and miles of timber uninhabited by people and hunters. We have seen the swamp bucks and marsh monsters and hill country brutes and farm land giants but does anyone have any pictures of any good big woods bucks they or someone they know has hunted or even harvested? I hunt the northwoods and have had a few encounters but for the most part we get trail cam pics of half their rack as they are drifting out of the frame of the picture almost as though they were never even there to begin with. I have a couple old trail cam pics off the 35mm cams I will try to scan in too. Would love to see some pics from the guys who hunt the northwoods and have had success!

This is a buck I killed in 1995. He is a Maine buck, I knew him well. I had three of his beds pegged, and knew most of his entrance and exit trails. I had him within 75 yards 3 times during the bow season, and finaly got him Nov 1st, 3rd day of the rifle season. He grossed 159 6/8ths with about 3 1/2" broke off his right beam. He also dressed out at 217lbs. At the time he would have been the #5 in the state with archery equipment. I lived up there for a couple of deer seasons, very nice country, you guy would do yourselves a favor visiting Maine. If you love smallies 100 fish days are pretty easy with a little research.Image

Have you ever hunted in forest county wisconsin? A few years ago I swear somebody that looks like you showed me a picture of that second buck.

Nice buck, I have a feeling that some mid west hunters wouldn't have a clue what to do if they had to kill a deer in Maine....(obviously I'm not talking about anyone who posted on this thread, or anyone in particular, so please don't get upset with that statement)
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

I know you said you don't like posting pics hodag but it'd be cool to see some of your kills! I know you've shot or taken trail cam pics of some nice northwoods bucks!

As far as the other northwoods bucks go holy crap  This gives me new hope and pushes me to scout and hunt harder this fall. The bucks we get on camera that I think are "big" probably only measure as much as half the rack of most of the slobs posted here. Those are some real giants guys nice work!

Let's just say I have more trail cam pictures of Northwoods bucks than kills.... I've got a few on the wall but not the amount that should be there with all the years I have in hunting in the northwoods. More mistakes than dead deer.
