Re: Oxbows and giant bucks
Good timing! I just got permission on a new piece that has a good sized creek with some small oxbows. I'll take this info in when I scout it.

Good video Dan and great explanation on how to approach hunting oxbows. And thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge of your past hunts.
Another bunch of great information to help us figure out how to hunt these mature bucks under different circumstances.

Shoot straight, Kill Clean, and apologize to no one.

This was an incredible video. What a rollercoaster ride that hunt was.
I had wondered if they would bed an oxbow on all winds. Thanks for all of this info!

That’s why I bought your stand, sticks, why I take all you say to heart and try to apply it. Nobody else would have shown that to help others learn

Re: Oxbows and giant bucks
As usual, excellent video, story telling and shirt, Dan!
Does anyone have experience in hill/ridge terrain that have a river or creek at the bottom of the steep ridges? My question is, has anybody seen a preference as to where a buck may bed if the leeward side of the ridge lines up with the opening of an oxbow at the bottom of said ridge? Do they tend to stay up on the ridge, or do they seem to prefer the oxbow? I understand that it's all situational and every deer is different. I'm just wondering if someone has seen a noticeable preference in general, based on their experiences.
Thank you.

Obviously, thats a tough question... My personal observations tend me to answer with this: Low pressure, and good bedding in both the hill points and the oxbow. Bucks will bed both, and may choose the one thats closer to food, or the one that they feel more secure in. Increase pressure to the ingredients and bucks will tend to prefer the oxbow.

Re: Oxbows and giant bucks
Thank you for answering. I'm kind of thinking they'd prefer to be closer to water in the early, warm weather part of the season. I'll cross the river and plan to set up on the oxbows first and then adjust accordingly based on what I see.
