Got my Dream Buck
My dream buck has always been a 10pt with split brows. I've also always really wanted to get a crack at mature buck with those flat, blade shaped brow tines.
My dad passed away last Saturday. This last year has been extremely difficult on our family since he was diagnosed with cancer, particularly the last month and a half. Not to get too sappy, but I've never felt loss like this. We had his memorial yesterday and hosted a cookout at his home afterward to celebrate his life. He lives on a small creek, maybe 40-50 feet wide. My kids took a walk back to the creek while we were grilling and mentioned that they saw a dead buck on the other side of the creek. I had a running joke with my dad about never seeing any bucks in the backyard and so my interest was immediately piqued. They walked me back there to point it out and it was obviously a good buck. I grabbed a saw and wet waded across the creek, lifted its head out of the water and pulled the sticks and leaves that were tangled around its antlers. It was a 10pt with a split brow on one side and a flat brow on the other. I'm definitely taking it as a sign from my dad that he is still with me, and that's one of the few things that made me smile this week.

Re: Got my Dream Buck
Sorry to hear about your father. With that being said, that’s really a cool story about finding the buck back in his yard/creek. I 100 PERCENT believe in signs like that.
My wife’s grandpa passed away two weeks ago. The day before his death, my wife visited him at the care facility. He only opened his eyes one time during her one hour visit with him and didn’t say a word. He opened his eyes when my wife told him we would be going ice fishing the next day and that his great grandson (my son) was really excited. Grandpa opened his eyes and gave a little smirk after hearing that (he was a BIG fisherman). Well, the next day we were ice fishing, and we hadn’t caught a fish in the first two hours. Then, we got the call that grandpa had passed. It wasn’t one minute later and one of our tip up flags popped up. We ran over and caught a northern. And then about 15 seconds after that a different flag popped. Caught another. We then told our oldest son about great grandpa passing and had a good big hug and tears. We didn’t catch another fish the rest of the day (extremely cold out that day). But, I am POSITIVE that he sent those northern to us to give us comfort.
Signs are real, and your dad sent one to you which is special.

Re: Got my Dream Buck
Very sorry for your loss. Losing my dad exactly 8 years ago was the hardest thing I ever had to deal with and still stings every single day.
That’s a very nice looking buck. Things like that happen for a reason. Your dad will be with you this fall and don’t be surprised if something else really great happens in the woods. The year my dad passed I could feel his presence with me on every hunt and still do. They live on inside us and effect everything we do. Good luck this fall Trout. Get one for dad.

Re: Got my Dream Buck
He’s definitely sending a message he’s still with you.
Sorry for your loss.
Lost my Dad 9 years ago. Keep a prayer card from his service in my truck with his pic on it. We talk all the time on my ride into work.
Miss him every day but he’s still alive in our family’s memories and hearts.
Hang in there and never forget the good times you and your Dad shared.

So sorry for your loss. That buck definitely has a special meaning, and I’m sure that’s how it was meant to be.
