Scrape help
I found a scrape last week that was about the size of a compact car. It's tucked away under some holly trees with pretty good cover around it. There is a large rub on one of the trees adjacent to the scrape and also a licking branch that looks pretty chewed up above it. My question is... is a scrape like this used only during the rut, or would this be used year round? It's not super close to bedding but about 150 yards way. There are many smaller scrapes much closer to the bedding area but they do not have rubs or licking branches in or near them.

Re: Scrape help
Is it in a travel corridor or near a food source?

Sounds like a community scrape. Depending on if they travel through there year round to hit different food sources and bedding they will hit it year round. But if this is a seasonal food source like acorns, they may only use it in the fall.

Re: Scrape help
I appreciate everyone’s input… would you hunt a scrape like this?

Re: Scrape help
They can be hit year round . October is the prime month but Bucks will check scrapes again , especially now while they monitor doe bedding or travel routes for the last does to come in to heat . Without setting a camera on it , You should be able to tell if deer are still using it by fresh tracks , leaves scraped back . Set up depending on the wind and where the bucks would likely be coming from . Good luck .
And yes I would hunt a large scrape , especially if it’s in some cover .
