I decided to head back to the same area and hunt again. There are quite a few does in the area, and I figured maybe I will see another buck cruising for some lovin.. or even better, see my buck cruising and get another crack at him. Well, as you would think 2 days after wandering all over the place and having the tracking dog in the area, etc... I saw no deer at all. I sat till about 11 am, then decided I was going to get down wind of an area I believe to be a buck bedding area to see if I find anything, even if just for a later hunt. As I got close I noticed a single vulture circling overhead, however that's not unusual to see almost everywhere I hunt. But then over the brush, I saw a single vulture come flying up out of the creek bottom... I thought to myself "I need to go check this out immediately". So I did, and there he was... my buck. I had underestimated him. He was a tank! Unfortunately I wasn't confident the meat was good since it was even though it appeared all the vultures did was eat his eyes, so I caped him out and left the rest.

Congrats on a great buck. Always nice when you put in a little extra effort and are rewarded for it.

Great job! I don’t blame u for leaving the meat, vultures are nasty creatures. The carry a lot of bacteria which spreads when they get pecking around. We’ve lost a few within an hour or two because of them in Ohio

Congratulations! The persistence really paid off. Too bad the meat couldn’t be salvaged but it happens to all of us at some point or another. Great looking buck.

Congrats Brad! Kudos on the woodsmanship. These things happen to all hunters, but what separates some of us is that initiative. Hopefully some guys will be inspired by this to make that extra effort. Happy it paid off!

Are you sure that's how it went down? :liar:

I really appreciate that! I too hope that the story inspires others. In fact I wrote the long version of the story out in another post I titled "My success story!!! the novel..." because it definitely goes into more detail and some back story, etc. I love sharing my experiences, and hope others either learn something from them or just find them entertaining.
