Finally some deer killing weather incoming
I probably think this every year, but this year's fall weather has been awful for hunting. I've hunted every weekend since the bow season opener five weeks ago. It's been warm, low pressure, swirly windy, and rained a ton even when it did cool down. I still hunted, but it was not fun.
Finally, FINALLY we have nights in the upper 20s and daytime highs in the low 40s with high pressure and steady winds coming up this weekend in the north-east. I'm taking Friday and Monday off.
Anyone else feel like they've been coiling up and now it's prime time to strike with a vengeance?

Always love the first real good cold snap that last for several days
Good luck to you. Hope you hunting days become fun again real soon!!

I certainly am. Bucks were I hunt get pressured hard so I love the weather to get them moving a bit earlier.
Back to work tomorrow but planning a few more days off next week on whatever days turn out to be the best.

Things have really blown up in my area the last 4 days or so. Bigger bucks have been on their feet during daylight hours....should be solid for the next week or so.

Re: Finally some deer killing weather incoming
Sending the cold weather down your way. I’ve been up in the Lake Superior snow belt and it’s been a big cool down up here. Barely above freezing the last few days with off and on lake effect snow yesterday and another 2-5” tonight. Low’s in the lower 20’s. Early November snow is actually very late up here. Seen it blow in often with cold NW winds in early October. Feels great to finally be rid of a hotter than heck October. Worst I can ever remember.
Been fishing but seeing deer all over on their feet at all hours of the day. Obviously enjoying the cool weather too.

Just rechecked and Monday and Tuesday for me look warm here in southern Michigan. Gonna have to debate using my last few vacation days.
Really want to use them before bow season ends

Oh right it was like your first buck you said in about 5-6 seasons? In case I didn't already say, congrats. And enjoy the fishing.

YES! First frost here overnight. I just let the dog out on the back deck about an hour ago, 10 a.m. and there was a buck on the hill on the edge of bean field looking at me. Hello! They are cruising.
Twigs in my hair, don't care.

It's encouraging that you're seeing that and we're both in NY. I'm calling it right now; I'm going to kill a buck with my bow this weekend. And I hope you do the same!

Re: Finally some deer killing weather incoming
Well I did not kill a buck with my bow this weekend. I went in three miles to a nice area I know of, packing gear for two overnights. First night my sleeping pad got a hole in it and wouldn't inflate so I basically slept on the ground while it got down to 23 overnight. That was not fun. Left me exhausted and sapped my energy. Tried to patch the pad before going out hunting the following morning. Patch wouldn't hold and no way in I was going to spend another night like that, or take the time to make a bed out of fir / pine boughs. Just hunted the morning, packed up and headed out.
Did go out last night to a more accessible spot though, had a doe come running through with a grunting spike hot on her tail. First time I ever saw that, and was super cool. Also saw a huuuuuuge black bear boar (300+lbs all day) come within 50 yards of me. But he got my scent I think and never came to where I could get a shot.
So still a great weekend of hunting. I hope others enjoyed the same.
