The last few hours before dark I drove around the local public to check out hunting pressure. Everywhere I checked had a fair amount of vehicles except where I killed my buck a few weeks ago. Pulled in and just off the parking lot a heavy racked 140”+ mature buck came marching past with not a care in the world. Seems he knew nobody was hunting……..including me.

My wife said “boy that sure would have been an easy drag”. :o

The time is right here for me. Haven’t got a chance to hunt yet. But rut activity driving to and from work hasn’t looked good. It’s been very hot here. Wednesday it was in the 80s. Coming back from the grocery a few hours ago I saw a big doe that had a newborn fawn. Covered in spots and could barely walk. I see 1 or 2 every year at this time but usually the doe is very young and has her first fawn. This doe was mature. Peak breeding time for my area is around Nov 20th so things should get poppin here quick. Just hope I’m off work and in a tree when in does.

Had a forkie close enough to reach out and poke with an arrow yesterday in Southern Mi. Was creeping in and he came cruising by.

He sure seemed to still be searching

Nov 14 and i’ve yet to see a buck actually chasing a doe at this point. Been quite a few years, decades probably, where i’ve not actively seen chasing at all. Just had two does drift by me Sat night, no bucks following up. Today i saw 10 does in a field feeding at dusk along the freeway, not a buck to be found out dogging them.

Weird “rut” this year in southern WI. I wasn’t hunting last two weeks of Oct maybe it was going on then but that would be super early for chasing and such. Oh well, i’m hunting does anyways but even when my buck tag is filled early i still like watching all the rut activity but there really wasn’t any i’ve seen in early Nov this year.

Same situation for me in NW IL. Only saw chasing once. All other bucks I saw were alone and not really cruising. One I shot was by himself as well. I'm hoping hoping a decent secondary rut to get buck #2.

It’s all systems a go in my parts. Seen 5 roadkill on my way to work this morning and seen numerous bucks chasing in the fields. Got 4 days off starting tomorrow and I suspect I won’t be able to sleep tonight! Is the season….
