Alfalfa

Unread postby NorthStar » Sun Oct 10, 2021 10:50 am

I live in southern Minnesota and I was curious if anyone was seeing deer in alfalfa fields right now. These fields still look super green due to the warm start to our fall. I haven’t had a chance to glass them. Thanks!

Well, I can confirm deer are still on alfalfa. A doe and 2 fawn came out 45 min before closing time. I thought they were going to walk my way but never did. I certainly leaned something though. Apologize up front for the crap picture.

Ive done an observation sit the other day and was thinking the deer would be hitting dried up bean fields but not one deer was in the beans, they were all in green alfalfa and clover fields. Unfortunately I haven't had the wind to hunt those fields yet.

I’ve seen them thick in alfalfa well after dark on my drive out. Goofy weather year but the forage looks pretty good for this time of the year.

Kind of like he behavior in bean fields, as they’ll walk out into it at dark, eat and bed in it all night long, I find tons of beds in it.

Shined an alfalfa field here in NW WI last night. Usually it has 50 plus deer in it. It was pretty brown and was only two deer in it. There’s a corn field next to it. Guessing they are hitting the corn.
