Once the field is harvested...

What's your strategy? Afternoon sits only? Track down White Oaks?

In my limited experience, I still see them graze a harvested field, but usually only in the evenings.

What crop? Iv seen them eat fresh cut bean fields midday, right in the middle and the mature bucks not even lift their heads to look at traffic. They are on it immediately.

In corn I think it depends on how much corn the harvester leaves. I’ve seen it go both ways. If there’s a lot of corn laying around for easy pickings than they will feast until it’s gone or they get pressured off. Your Gonna need to check it with observation and boots on ground.

After Soy beans get sprayed with defoliant and turn yellow (near harvest time) don’t appear to be favored by deer at that time. Usually the acorns are fresh (white oaks get hammered first) and more appealing during that time frame and they also make a late move to finish off the (greens, forbes, honey suckle, persimmon, muscadine) before winter turns them brown.

However I’ve seen deer traffic pick up in cut bean fields during late season. It’s usually mid December here, I think the chemicals have washed off the beans by this time and Deer need fat and protein after all the green has died off. They seem to eat rotten acorns, winter wheat, and will find the soy beans in December.

This is my .02 cents on basic deer food from what I see yearly in my area.
Be original and Enjoy every step along the adventure.

Corn I would be on it right away as well. At least one or two hunts.

Aside from that - yes I would move on. The main thing is the stem count is now lower and their security is gone.

If they didn’t chop it and don’t plow it up right away, deer love corn stubble. They especially love the trashy fields where the stalks are left long, but we don’t see many of those around here anymore.
