Definitely blackjack. Big bell shaped leaves and the tree looks like a thick mess with all the low branches.

Sumac berries make a great tea for anyone who wants to try to eat some of the things growing in your backyard.

Sorry to hijack your thread boogie man but I thought posting some of the natural browse that's important to deer might benefit a few.

here's a quick video that shows a food source that is often neglected and thought not to be eaten by deer....

Osage orange? And I thought people also called them hedge apples, not horse apples… which I always interpreted as horse turds. :?

I’ve seen those things browsed before, almost looks like a partially eaten corn cob. Was never quite sure what did the eating of it, be it squirrels, possums, deer, etc

I think squirells and hugs do the most but I've seen to many feet eat them

Place I'm hunting currently is absolutely covered in them things. You cant walk hardly anywhere in a 100 yards and not find a tree and hedge apples on the ground. I always check them while scouting but yet to see any sign that the deer are eating on them. I know squirrels will, I've seen it.

Another tangent... anyone know what this is? It's on a ground vine. I haven't seen it before, at least not with this "fruit".
