The hardest part about killing big buck is...
Locating one.
When I did the first podcast with Seaz, I made the comment that I don’t summer scout much until roughly mid July. That changes this year. I’ve been out scouting a few times already, and have 3 cams out and will be putting more out very soon.
If you don’t have a target in mind, there’s no better time to start searching than the present.

I’m just itching to do my summer scouting. I’m trying to find a weekend to head south so I can start glassing/shining and put out cameras. Summer goes quick so it shouldn’t be long now.

I got eyeballs on what could be a good one, so I’m probably going to hang a cam. Tough to tell at this time of the year, though unless you cut a track. Not much antler growth is showing yet to be sure what you’re going to get.

After vaca it's time to deploy cams, take inventory, and start playing the game

Right after the 4th of July is when I start to really get excited. It’s like my summer is over and it’s time to get after them.

Finding one. I definitely agree. Not that they're easy once you know where they are, but it certainly helps.

Yep, hardest part is actually finding one. Been a problem for me the last few years here at home. There’s a few that I had make it last year though so fingers are crossed.

I agree finding one can be hard but not the hardest part for me. I find it is much harder to figure one out and get one in bow range or just even get an opportunity than it is to find one.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

If this works and you’re finding some bruisers to chase, then no reason to fix what isn’t broken. But I’m sure there are lots of guys out there who don’t have a pocket full of big bucks to pursue. I’m one of them.
Me finding a public land buck that tops 150 is fairly rare. But they’re out there... I know they are. My point is, I can tell a mature buck from a mediocre three year old in early June. So why wait 4-6 weeks to start searching?
You never know when that little bit of extra effort pays off.

You hunt mountains, correct? I can see how that has it’s challenges.
I probably should have been a little more specific in my original post too. There’s a big difference between just finding one (a single cam pic, or shining one by a road in the middle of the night) and knowing where one lives.
The more I do this the more I realize, at least around here, the older a buck is the more predictable he is. The problem is finding his exact bedding. I struggled to find the drop tine’s bedding last summer but once I did, I saw him leave bedding twice in three hunts and had him all over my trail cam.

If I lived in southern WI things would be a little different as far as when I would get out to scout. It's not that I don't want to or don't think about it, it's just right now I have other important things going on with the family and house. I'm also not after a 150s buck. Anything P&Y will be shot if I get an opportunity.
