I run a seasonal business. In the fall my customers know to be ready by gun hunting season or be a former customer. Priorities.

I have been fortunate to be able to save for retirement pretty consistent since my 20's. And also knew work for just money was not the big goal in life.
Retirement was an age that people end up at.

Turns out that a whole group of younger people have discovered retirement can be completely unrelated to age. The sooner, the better. Light bulb moment for me to discover FIRE .
Financial
Independence
Retire
Early
Manage expenses like a hawk, put spare money to use in the market, etc.
So rather than putting an age to quiting work, place a financial goal in place, meet it and walk away from the rat race forever.
Please let your kids and younger people know that the common routine of 9 to 5 till 65 is NOT a hard and fast rule.

I collect SSD i have all the time in the world to go out. Trouble is I feel like hot garbage most the time so its hard to get out. Im finding sheer determination and forcing myself to go scouting no less then 3 times a week has put me on legal animals and I even found a shed. I guess its like anything else if you put it high on the list you will find a way to get the necessary work done to reach your goal.

I look forward to a day when I can work less and scout, hunt, and fish much more. Doesn't seem like there is an option right now for me to make a change with a family I am raising and trying to spend as much time as possible with them as well. Living a balanced life is hard to do.

I quit-fired from several jobs for hunting no regrets.
Better to be poor and free.

Then rich and a slave to a company that treats you like a hammer when it breaks they just discard n get a new hammer. Life is short better to enjoy it then work it away.

I'm not married or have kids i think if I was my decision would be much more complicated.

I don’t even rank work in my top 100 favorite things I enjoy doing. It rates somewhere between paying taxes and getting a colonoscopy.

It would be awesome if hunting paid my bills.

You have made a statement that is often not the true goal.

I would rather not give hours of my life towards creating income. My hunting is being shortchanged by spending time on the job.

These statements are true for me. Are they true for anyone else?

Does not matter if your rich or poor, man is never satisfied. We are always striving for a better situation. Even those whom have it made, often dont realize their own fortune. When looking back on my life, its the childhood growing up dirt poor with nothing that were the funnest most exciting days of my life, and I often dream of going back to those simpler days.

Gotta love a place that embraces being poor and old school. You don't find that everywhere. There's something to be said about the basic hunt, playing wind and woodsmanship.

I actually like work because it gives value to my free time and I like seeing cash in the bank. When hunting or fishing, I go hard at it 100%. I'm not sure if I have a bunch of free time, it will feel the same to me or it would be taken for granted. Like others have said, it's really a balance that's easier said than done. When I get closer to retirement age, and the option of hanging it up becomes viable, I'll probably feel very different about that.
