For those that asked, the shot was from 7’ up. He was in pretty close probably 7 yards. He was 4 yards quartering to me at one point. If you’re wondering how I botched that shot, let’s just say more shooting light wouldn’t have hurt my feelings at all.

Couple that with some buck fever and the fact that I was expecting him to smell me at any second and voila! I rushed the shot!

Buck may have rolled toward u at the shot. Yes he was close, but the sound of the shot is closer/louder to him too. They can be amazingly quick, and that sort of movement would have been hard for you to perceive. In the low light conditions. I'm not completely sold on the bubbles in the blood. As being a lung hit/graze either. Blood bubbles can also form while flowing through and dripping off of hair.

Pics looked like he was working a scrape. My common sense tells me a sick buck wouldn't be doing that. So it's business as usual for him. Shake this off. And go figure out how to kill him. You've proved you know how to do that!!!!

Definitely looks like no mans land of backstrap just below spine. Almost a miracle he wasn't spined. Bummer!

That’s a relatively steep angle, no?

I’d say that he’s one lucky buck rather than you executing a bad shot.

I shot one just like that last yr in mid oct. in mid nov I seen him running does. When he would walk you could make out a very slight limp on one leg. (I may have been a tad more forward)

Sure would be cool to get a shot at that buck twice in one season. That graze with danger may have saved his life this season, if it causes him to really lay low.. not that he hasn’t already gotten this far in life by laying low
