One day to hunt the front

Unread postby NorthernRookie » Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:18 am

You only get one day, Is it better to hunt the first day of the front or the coldest? Cold front comes in on thursday. High on wed is 65 going to high of 46 on Thursday. Winds of 15 on Thursday. However on Friday high is 49 but the morning is going to be below freezing. Winds of about 8.

So if you only have one day, do you hunt all day Thursday or Friday? Wind is same direction both days.

That would be an all day Friday for me. Not quite as cold here, but same principal. I'll be out hoping for the best!

I would hunt the approaching front day and sit all day.

According to the hunt wise app from Jeff Sturgis, Thurs is the day to hunt in MN.

I use that app as well and gives thursday the slight edge.

Thursday would be my choice, the first day of a front has been the best for me, but, I’d expect good action on Friday too and would love to hunt both.

Depending on what happens on Thursday, I might go back Friday afternoon. I just hope I don’t run into these damn squirrel hunters again. I swear these same two guys are there every day.

Had originally planned to hunt Friday

But changed to Thursday as the forecast changed throughout the week. Supposed to get cloudy late friday evening. Dont like added cloud cover when I need every minute of daylight to get it done.

Here is something I'm starting to take more to heart since my wireless cameras tend to tell me differently then the moon....apps....professionals all have to say. Days that are supposed to be "low percentage" hunts I'll have pictures all day of deer. And vise versa.... this is a good read and a little something to fire up a debate! OH AT LEAST FIND AND READ THE SPOILER ALERT!
