PA Opener

Unread postby cspot » Sat Oct 03, 2020 11:20 am

Anyone heading out tomorrow for the opener? I am pretty excited to go even though I got out last weekend in Ohio. My son is going to a good morning spot tomorrow and I think should have a good chance to score on a buck. I will be about 100 yards from my house in a patch of oaks that are loaded with acorns. Don't expect to see a buck, but I feel like I should get a chance at a doe.

I'll be taking the wife out! Hoping to catch a doe cruising by in the evening on a transition. Not going to far back just yet. Good luck to you!

Good luck! I am always pumped for the opener. Not trying to do anything too fancy I have a spot that is easy access with a lot of does, I like that it's kinda become my opening morning tradition to post up there. It's 50 yards off a main SF road, kind of a crazy little fat chick spot but for doe bedding. So I'll be monitoring Rona traffic vs. normal opener anticipating quite a few road warriors.

Very excited. I'll be in the State forest in a little pinch point where a lot of deer pass through to bed up farther up the mountain. As tempting as it will be I'm probably not going to shoot a doe, too much consistent buck activity in this spot.

We didn't do any good this morning. Both of us saw deer. We will be back at it this evening.

Tomorrow is my last day of fall baseball, then I'll be able to start heading to PA on the weekends. Even though I live in WV, I can be to south central PA in less than an hour. If I play my cards right, some days I can get up there after work, instead of having to solely wait until Saturday.

I had about my best opener ever in PA. I've probably seen bucks spar 5x in my life. I saw it twice yesterday. Small bucks and a bunch of doe in the morning, then a real beauty and smaller buck in the evening. That big buck made to licking branches, one at 60 yards and one at about 30 feet!! It was a great experience. He was in a mowed field at 6:30...worked his way all the way in on the edge. Honestly it was like a YouTube video.

Got out Saturday AM with my son before baseball games. 1st year using climber and 1st year using a compound... a little different than sitting next to me in a buddy stand with a crossbow! Saw a little button buck at 10yds. Worked out great because he got to practice getting situated and a little practice drawing.

I ended up seeing a handful of doe between the morning and evening hunts but not much moving for me. The acorns seem to be very spotty where I am
