Never on the private I have access to hunt. It's old paper company land. You can use the topo, identify a saddle, and get the spot and it's 20 year old pines and thick as snot. If I hunted an area that was mature hardwoods I would give it a go.

This is my mindset, basically. I use a bright red flashlight that enables me to navigate better in a place I’ve never been, plus it helps with the shooting lane issue. Just scan the canopy in your desired spot and you can picture what tree will be advantageous for shot opportunities, same as in daylight. I try to give myself plenty of time in blind morning hunts because there may be an unexpected ravine or something that I might have to go around. Also, I avoid areas I anticipate them feeding in predawn during my entry. I’ve had some of my best hunts going in blind in the mornings. It helps if the access route is simple. I try to have firsthand experience before I attempt the more intricate ones.

Re: Going in 100% blind-in the morning
Like others here, I have also done a lot of blind morning hunts, picking spots on aerials, and making sure the wind is right. Mornings seems to work better for my family life. Last year I picked a tree that had great visibility to a pretty open cattail marsh with a lot of good bedding transitions sprinkled in. I didn't get a deer within shooting range that morning but I glassed deer headed back to bed once the sun came up. I realized pretty quickly that this ended up being a great early morning hunting strategy, as I was able to move in on these deer and get opportunities in the evening.
So my suggestion would be to pick a tree on aerials where you will have line of sight to many potential bedding areas from a distance and plan on bringing your binos! I plan to do this same thing tomorrow morning on a new property. Our states bow opener is tomorrow!

I’ve never had a reason to go in blind in the morning. In my area I get 9 months to scout.

Yup, I would have to think this strategy trumps going in blind every time.

More or less a deal of patience. I have 5 deer on the hit list. Two states. 3 tags. I still want to hunt, but I know better than to pressure them. In november my chances are still low given where these deer are.
