Took a break at work to watch this. Loved it Dan. Just keep being honest no matter what. We need that in hunting, the world itself needs more of it. Plus it seems like you made that kids day being a part of the retrieval.

Glad you got it out. Swimming during gun season...

I've been the Chris Conroy in this story before with Jmaas07. "All I saw was a good main beam" that's the famous quote in both these stories

Luckily, I learned early on in life to sit back and enjoy a good suck. There will come a time when embracing a good suck doesn’t come a round as often. But I always treasure the memories of a really good one.

Great post!

If it doesn’t hurt at least a little was it really worth it? Another good one Dan. Thanks

I feel like the part that I can relate to the most is the desire to go rogue, go into no-mans land and have an adventure. Killing a deer is a bonus.

Great video and quite the adventure!
Be original and Enjoy every step along the adventure.

Honestly the whole situation makes that buck even more of a trophy. The hunt strategy, The long shot, hard recovery, boat ride hunter help. That is what public land is all about! Great vid and story Dan. Also I’m sure he tasted great!

My kids, and those whom know me best, know better than to answer calls from me during hunting season...

I loved it, Dan.
Especially the points you made about getting the deer on the ground and then worrying about how to get him out.

Very few of my best bucks were easy to get to and get out, I never gave the difficult drag a moments' consideration before touching the trigger; never regretted it.
The suck only lasts a few hours.
After that, it's all great memories and a few good laughs around campfires recalling those experiences.

And like you alluded to to, that kid in the boat sure didn't think that there was anything small about that fine fat buck!
