Life with Stanley; The Deer Wake
Successful bow hunts in these parts are celebrated! The calls go out, supplies are readied, and the guys gather for a deer wake.
One particular night, we had 3 bucks hanging in our garage. The party was in full swing when my bosses arrived; they had come to see their expected deer sausage on the hoof. The celebration continued, congrats and back slaps for the hunters, people came and went. One of my bosses left with his wife, and then the other one, John, headed for home as well.
It wasn't long before John was back. You guessed it, he hit a deer on his way home! What now? Bring it back and hang it with the herd, of course!
Quite a few of the attendees loaded into their cars and followed us to the scene of the crime. Guys were shuffling around, hands stuffed in pockets, until someone announced that the deer needed to be gutted. A knife was produced and solemnly handed to John.
The men, of course, were having a hard time keeping it together. What would the greenhorn do, this boss of Jan's???
After a startled, "Oh!" and a surprised look, John shrugged and with a few quick snicks of the knife, the deer was gutted, the knife wiped off and returned to its owner. Mouths gaped open as the giggling and snickering was replaced by stunned silence.
Stan and I laughed for years at the memory of the looks on his friends' faces! Oh, by the way, I used to be a veterinary technician...

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Good to hear another story dear. I suspect you have lot of them to tell.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
