using down feather as a substitute for milk weed

has anyone ever tried using down feathers to check wind? I was cleaning up our duck plucker today and couldn't help but realize how they float on the wind. Seems like they are more than light enough to do the job.

It might be matted together a little coming out of the plucker, but if you can seperate it from the feathers, dry it and fluff it back up I think it should work just fine.
