Found an active scrape tree and an adjacent dogwood thicket that was ripped up.

When I left that area buck sign dropped off in a hurry. It was hard to come by through out much of the scout. Will need to go back to re-hash everything and pick out some kill sets. Today was a speed scout.

Why did i just find this thread? 9miles man i did 5 or 7 and thought i killed it.. alot easier in hiking boots what boots are you using approaching january to hike miles?

Went yesterday to hunt a roadside spot. I had seen enough late evening activities that they were most likely bedding there.
Well, I busted one or two out moving in too fast or too far . Found a tree on the edge with a logged area for observation. At fading light I spotted an adult buck out 75-80 yds.
He acted strange. Ran into the wind and had his tail on high alert. But it really seemed like an attempt to communicate with the other bumped deer. He was in the open and telling them "hey I'm over here"
My scent never drifted that way and late season they do stick together a lot. So I will revisit them soon.

Nothing wrong with a 5-7 mile day! 9 is definitely on the upper end of what I do around here.

I spend a ton of time in knee high rubber boots (cheaper Lacrosse) and often enough, hip boots or waders. But this year I got a pair of Crispi Nevada hiking boots. I got them for out west and wore them yesterday since everything is froze up. I absolutely love them. There is some sticker shock, but if they last they’re worth it. I started multiple threads online about them and some guys have close to 1,000 miles on their Crispi’s and claim they look almost new.

I’ve got 60-70 miles on mine and so far I’d buy them again in a heartbeat. They do have a little upward angle to the toe which is designed for climbing hills. So they felt a little odd right away but I don’t even notice it anymore.

Putting those miles on frozen ground sure does feel good doesn’t it!? My knees welcomed that frozen muck

Snows coming.
I’m in route to some big public to see if I can find the perfect kill tree.
Hopefully the snow isn’t crazy till later.
I need a kill

80 yards from a north based buck bed. Snow camp ground and pound! Hoping my target buck is using it and walking through the Norway pines to get to the destination food source

Ended up calling the hunt early. Snow and wind really picked up.
Next Hunt is probably Thursday for me

10 minutes before the end of legal, I heard 2 grunts from the west in the direction of the bed, and closing in fast. It ended up being a doe and fawn. That was it for me. 5-6 does and fawns in the field on the way out.

Bunch of deer and some decent bucks. Nothing to get me serious yet. Did see a few nice 8 points dogging a doe fawn. First actual snow we've had of the year and it's fun to watch the deer play in it.
