I’ve paper tuned my arrows and hitting the archery range.

I’ve narrowed down some new spots to hunt and will go in scouting to try find some set up locations.

I also have some cams set out to better understand how deer are using the property.

Checking in here at the beast regularly ;)

Cyber scouting heavvvvvvvy lately.

Communicating with likeminded guys.

Listening To podcasts, as usual.

Sticking away cash for gas and tags...

Shooting the bow and fine tuning gear...

This is one of those off years - pulled a good 3-day rifle tag but it falls on duck hunting opener and I'm taking my 80 yo dad duck hunting while still can. So returning it.

Hunt lease got clear cut last year so need to figure out where & how deer are using it.
Hang a few stands.
Maybe plant a few small plots in areas with the most sign to encourage use.
Gonna hunt archery/Xbow some cause the other lease members don't. Dad will get the crossbow.

Cyber scouting some public land spots that will hopefully pay off, get the trail cameras out, and probably get the spot light out here soon!

I have started doing come catfishing.

I honestly haven't done alot recently. I got a fair amount of scouting done in late winter/early spring. Not as much as I would have liked to but I did get some promising new spots. Probably in another month I will start glassing some new spots that I hope to hit in early season. Also need to check out the one river bottom soon to see what crops are planted on private. Will probably take a kayak ride to scout as the river is the border between public woods, and private ag in several areas.

Believe my own situation is different than the majority of folks. I used to hammer the ground all summer long only to find them completely change there patterns right after velvet split and then again shortly after opening morning. Would have never known that if at some point I didn’t do the work. But as of the past 6 or 7 years I put out summer cams to basically say wow and ohhhh! But truth be told I have a slim chance from ever laying eyes on them bucks with the small acreage I got to work with.

I do practice my shooting more geared towards hunting from here on out. I stay active outdoors which keeps me “hungry.” I strengthen my mind from both reading here and processing past information. I remove obstacles that were a prob the prior season. But I suppose the biggest thing I do to up my odds is get my mind right. Having my mind right is often the hardest thing and a hunters worst enemy. Right frame of mind keeps you still in the stand with 5 min on the clock. Sometimes it’s those few long few minutes that makes the difference between failure and a great season. At least thats been my experience. But that’s also not saying be lazy and sit a tree to death. I’ve paid my dues and beat the bushes. Things get simpler but never anything remotely easy. Beat the bushes!

Meditating.Cyber scouting. Shooting my bow. Getting trail cams ready. I will start shining and glassing soon when the velvet rut begins. I’ve been out fishing lately haven’t done anything in the field for deer since early May before green up

Trying to get as much work caught up as I can so I can have more time. Also about to start glassing. Noticed while working the bucks are out in the open fields in the evenings when it turns cooler and it looks like the flies are driving them crazy right now.

Within the next week or so ill start glassing the areas i can see from the road.

Trying to shoot my bow twice a week and also trying my saddle as much as possible to be better with my setups.
