Hill country buck(rip unc)
First time posting... recently my uncle just pass away so I thought I'll post up pics of his best buck and how it all went down. (Sw Wisconsin/hill country/public land/rut time frame)
Oct. 23-Nov. 1 2015 was the days he took off for the rut
Oct. 23 Friday: he scouted all day and found only 1 spot to hunt
The spot was located on the bottom 1/3 of the hills. The upper 1/3 was open with no cover while the bottom 1/3 was super thick with pines in the mix.
I remember him telling me that he found some hot sign and that he will be planning to do all day sits for the rest of his break at that spot. I thought he was crazy....
As sunday came along I wished him good luck and went back home. (he let two 115s/120s pass during that same weekend)
Thursday oct. 29: he told me he was exhausted and that he havent seen a deer at that spot since I left. I told him to move but he said no. That same night, the unexpected happened. Just like the 3 days before he didnt see any deer. As it was getting close to closing time he noticed a huge rack heading right towards him. (Thermals was already dropping/dead calm). The buck came in 5 yards from the climber treestand on the higher elevation. My uncle smoked him and he ran 50yards and drop.
My uncle was never the type to score his bucks, he just loved and respected them. He never played the wind but I noticed one of his strengths was being able to read sign and know what the deer are doing.
After my uncle passed away I decided to score this buck. It grossed at 173 5/8. Sorry for venting. Just thought I'll share his biggest success story with a bunch of people who love hunting as much as him.. rip Unc

What an absolute tank of a deer. Sometimes during the rut if you feel you are in the right spot you just have to sit tight!
Sorry about your uncle.

Good looking buck! I bet you have been pacing floor waiting on day to actually hang him on way.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Wow, great buck! Your uncle was certainly rewarded for his patience there. Good tribute to him also.
