Premature Excitement for opening day

Unread postby buttonbuck » Wed May 20, 2020 1:06 am

Archery Season starts in about 4 months. I'm way to excited, way to early. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas day.

I recall those days. Wonderful feeling. I don't get fired up now until around August. I got my game plan made out though. Got to get into WMA when water goes down some. Right now where I hunt its little over knee deep in there.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

I just put in for the state quota hunts. There aren't many place to just go hunt... Anyway, in a month I'll know if I'm deer hunting near home this fall.

Excitement is a good thing! Hunters get excited for upcoming seasons for reasons. Usually has to do with they have done there homework and positive thinking. Phrases like I dread this season, I don’t have no expectations, will see how it goes, Cross my fingers an hope for the best, I don’t care if I really get one, or this season really snuck up on me are said by guys who kept putting the work off or didn’t make an effort.

I have been excited for opening day since the first time I ever went hunting as a teen and it never faded 35 years later. The day the season ends in January I’m already looking forward to opening day in September. Hope I never lose that feeling. No such thing as premature excitement.

I did not mean to come across dry. But, I still think about it every day. That's why I am on here daily. But, fire just does not burn as hot as use to so to speak.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

I get it. I'm always amped up, but I can't even sleep the entire month of August.

What drives me is end of summer when we start to get that first hint of a north wind.

I am right there with you, super excited for the season to get here. Been scouting and shooting my bow since january 2 when our season ended. It's actually season now when you think about it, we cant hunt yet but now is the time of year where I'm dialing my arrow and broadhead setup in, trying to locate bucks and doing "last minute" prep. These next four months will go by faster than you can blink an eye then slow to a crawl in mid september.

I can relate! Opening day used to feel like Christmas morning to me years ago. Now it’s a 50/50 on if I will even hunt. But when that first harsh cold snap makes its way on the weather station I’m fired up. Giggity Giggity Goo.... Same feeling In the spring for fishing when the water warms up close to 60 and u get that first smoking hot day. Things are about to get ugly lol.

No sponsors. No camera crew. No team. Just me and my bow. And that’s the way I prefer it.

I “fixed” my pre-season deer excitement by taking up elk hunting. Total game changer: it really helps. Focus on off-season deer scouting in February-March, then flip the switch on April 1 (April fools day, appropriately) and am pretty much entirely focused on elk hunting until coming back from the mountains sometime in September. By then the deer season is open.....”problem” solved!
