This video is great! Thank you for the inspiration to get out!

I went out on my first scouting trip yesterday. I honed in on a deer highway about 200 yards wide of dry land with oaks. It’s isolated between a swamp and a river that is best paddled because it winds and has a lot of trees in it. Also, the put ins and take out are very far apart.

Went through this

Followed heavy track to this bedding area that I presume gets used heavily during hunting season. It had the bones from 2 or 3 deer scattered through the area.

A good day in the woods going where others don’t go! I’m excited for hunting season now!

Good stuff Dan. I grew up in the rainwater basin area of Nebraska and had a conversation about this with my dad this weekend (prior to watching). We were shed hunting and I asked him if he ever found sheds near any of the isolated trees or humps in the cattail marshes. He looked back at me and said, "yeah, that's where I find the best ones".

Whats your take on flooded river bottoms when it drys up it will leave water a few inches deep in 1/4 to 1 acre areas? I know they need a high spot to get out of water but does depth matter or how often it floods?

Flooding is diffacult because it washes away structure, moves structure, and changes in depth... So bedding can be very hard to predict, or pre scout, and often changes just about the time you learn it. But, yes, they bed in flooded areas.
