Food Sources

Unread postby AndreSaavedra » Mon Feb 24, 2020 8:22 am

I live in central N.C. and there is plenty of agriculture but I don't see any corn and very few soybeans and only early in the season. Determining food sources is my biggest problem, any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you

Jewel weed, poke weed, briars, brambles, broadleaf arrowhead, privet hedge, wild blueberry, persimmon, crabapple, muscadines, American Beautyberry- to name a few.

Woody browse consists of a large majority of a Whitetail’s diet from December through March.

The specific diet is going to change from growing region, time of year, adjacent available foods etc.. In reality, corn and acorns make up a very small portion of a Whitetails diet if we’re looking from August through January.

The deer will show you what they want and when (tracks, kicked up leaves, droppings, eaten foliage).
Take note of what plants are eaten and when. The PlantNet App makes us all a Horticulturist with a picture of a leaf, flower or bark.
