You must be my neighbor... exact same distances and the hunting is better the further I drive.

I’m not from Minnesota but maybe we both live in a metropolitan area? The further you get out from the population the better the hunting is on public land at least. Private is a different story. I think that rule holds in most areas of the country

10 minutes to both pieces of private. Right at 45 to the three different pieces of public I focus on. 5-15 minutes from my office to my after work public. 7 hours for my out of state public.

For me, there is 1 areas an hour away and a place 5.5 hours away.

If I can draw the permit I will hunt the 3 or 5-day hunt an hour from home, if not I do 2 or 3 weekend trips to the 5.5 hr place around the rut.

Most of the other places around here are about a 2+ hrs and after a couple years of doing that, I'd rather bank the drive time and go somewhere else.

With the new move I'm now about 2.45hrs from my old familar public pieces. Within an hour I've only got 5 public pieces here ( old house had over 60 properties of varying sizes with an hr.) I still made the 3hr drive a few times last year but camped and made a long weekend of it the second time..
