List of hunting methods

Unread postby treeroot » Thu Dec 12, 2019 5:29 am

Over my lunch I was thinking of all the hunting methods people use and which ones I want to get better at. Plus maybe it would help me identify them to judge pressure on public. I know most hunting is a combo. I figured listing them would be interesting.

Tracker
Still hunter
Bed hunter
Terrain feature hunter (funnel, edge)
Saw a deer there once hunter
Scrape hunter
Rub line hunter
Doe bedding hunter
Aimlessly walking around guy
Bait hunter

Then the different habitats:

Swamp
Marsh
Small parcel timber
Big woods
Hill country
Mountain country
River bottom
Farm land
Urban

What are some others?

I’ve been all those at some point except mountain and hill country. I dabbled some in bait hunting years ago but it didn’t last long.

Food source hunter, deer drives hunter, road hunters.

I see most guys setting up between feeding and bedding somewhere in the middle on the most heavily used trail they can find, not sure what that's called but it seems to be the preferred method around me.

Field edge hunter...any field edge, any time, regardless of any of other factor. Not recommended, but very popular.

In WV we have a lot of road hunters. Had someone shoot a deer off the road below me last day of gun season and drag it out right at my truck in the snow.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

X2

Or the neighbor is the reason for there tag soup. Either they kill all the young ones or there making em nocturnal. When in actuality they don’t have a clue what the neighbor kills or how they hunt.
