Re: Bow hunt during gun?
I do. This year it's only been on my property. In years past I typically hunted a buddy's farm during the two weeks of Michigan's gun. I have spent a little time on public a couple years ago, but during the week when there was nobody around.
Bummer of a birthmark, Hal.

Use to do it all the time out in MT. Just low pressure on the whitetails out there. Know of some guys that did it in the midwest a few years back. They sat in stuff so thick that 20 yards was a long range shot!!

I'm thinkn about doing that. Tryn to talk myself into being ok with letn a monster get away if he's just outa range. In bama we don't get many opportunities at big deer. But any bowkill beats any gun kill any day in my book.

Re: Bow hunt during gun?
I haven't picked a gun up for years. 2014,2015,2016, and 2018 I killed deer during the WI gun season, all on opening morning.
Set up in the thick with a max 30 yard shot and you won't miss the gun. If you've scouted bedding, you'll know where the deer will get pushed to with pressure. Don't be afraid to bump deer out in the dark. Get there early, and more deer will head your way throughout the day.

Re: Bow hunt during gun?
I do with a recurve during an over 2 month gun season. For myself, U give me that amount of time with a rifle on places I’ve hunted since I was a kiddo. Mixed in with the luxury of hunting everyday of the season if I chose to. Honestly, I wouldn’t feel like I accomplished anything. Now if I was hunting for selfies and Facebook likes, then yes smoke pole would be the go.
Some guys only get a tiny fraction of that time to get in the woods. A gun to them puts a heck of a grin on there face. Only the individual knows what’s right for them and it’s not to difficult for an outsider to see the diff from love or lust!

Re: Bow hunt during gun?
I often ask myself why I haven’t. Most of my rifle kills were in thick stuff where I could only shoot 30 yards max. They all would have been easy bow kills. In recent years I have been doing more snow tracking so that brought some fun back again so haven’t pursued hunting with my bow during the gun season. Tracking with the bow would be fun but also extremely difficult given the quick shots needed in thick cover.

Re: Bow hunt during gun?
Have done it forever and we have a 2.5 month gun season. I mostly do it on bow only properties and my private farms. Will pick up the gun to hunt a few times on some limited gun public.
In my earlier years 14-22ish, I’d take both in case a big buck was out of range. Never pulled the gun off the hanger to shoot but my dad killed his biggest that way.

Nope. Why fling arrows when you can launch bullets?

Re: Bow hunt during gun?
I've done both. This year I'm mixing it up between the rifle and pistol. So far the snow hasn't knocked down the crp/ brush fields I like to hit, so those will be rifle hunts. Any of the other normal stuff I'll be out with the pistol.

Re: Bow hunt during gun?
I will a couple days after most of the gun hunters head home. Let it simmer down, and then head out this Wednesday.

Re: Bow hunt during gun?
Trying it this year. All of my gun kills in the last 4-5 years have been with in bow range for the most part so I figured why not. With that said; Im starting to sweat it!

Re: Bow hunt during gun?
I rock the bow all season. The buck I shot this year was with the bow during rifle on public land.
