Very sad, tough way to relearn (hopefully) lessons. Hope he makes it.

I haven't gun hunted for deer in a decade or so. Mostly just due to having plenty of meat with the bow, but these kinds of stories don't make me miss it that much. I know if can happen anytime, but when you get 500,000 plus people in the woods with guns, chances are too many of them will be careless and irresponsible.

Shooting at an unidentified moving object is never going to end well. We have people around here who do this same thing and aren't ashamed to tell you, 'i just saw something moving through the brush, so I shot it". I'm surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. It's very sad.

There is something wrong when the "possibility" of killing a deer is more important than a human life. It's hard for me to imagine that people do this. When I see something that I've already confirmed to be a deer, I still check to make sure my shot is clear and that it is an animal that I want to shoot. There should be no way to mistake a person for a deer.
