The redemption Buck
Some of you on here may still remember me, visit the beast often, but it’s been a long time since I’ve posted on here. The knowledge I’ve learned and taken to the woods from the beast, is what brings my success. So Thank You Beast’s
So here is the story of Redemption;
I worked afternoon shift on Monday 11/11 and didn’t get home until 12:15am on 11/12. Alarm set for 4am and going off almost before I fell asleep. I crawled out of bed and got ready for my hunt. I arrived at my stand at 5am to a chilly -8 degree windchill with a west wind switching between 6 and 7 to SSE which I needed to hunt the leaward side. At 8:40am on that Tuesday morning (11/12) it was frosty as the sun was making its full appearance. Suddenly I catch movement off in the distance to my right. Here comes a buck down the trail that leads right in front of me. I see he is definitely a mature buck and I wanted to shoot him if the opportunity was there. Now he is only 10 yards in front of me when he steps behind a tree that is between us. I quickly get ready to make the shot on him when he hits a clearing at 20 yards. He hits the opening and I let the shot off to the sound of a loud crack. He just stands there for a second and slowly walks away. I thought maybe when the arrow went thru him that it hit a log or something on the ground. To my disappointment my arrow got deflected and cleanly missed him. It ended up about 5 feet off the ground planted in a tree. At this point I was depressed to say the least but I crawled back into the stand wondering what the heck just happened. Calmed myself down and decided this is a great day to be in the woods and decided I need to stay and keep my hunt going. Sitting in my stand wondering to myself if that would be my only chance at a mature buck this season. As it turned out it wasn’t!! At 10:20 I look to my left and here he is coming back. Only this time staying out a little further where I really didn’t have a shot opening picked out. Quickly glancing ahead I see a window about the size of adult male that I could get a shot off on him. 40 yards out he briefly stops in that window and I hit the release. This time he mule kicked and took off running wide open. I thought I had a great hit, but things happened so fast you really just hope you made the shot you thought you did. After a half hour I had to go check the arrow as it was driving me nuts. Arrow blood told me lethal hit with the bright red frozen blood with what look liked a few frozen small air bubbles. I backed out anyway to make sure he was dead in his first bed. Went back @ 6 pm and hit a great frozen blood trail for 80 yards to find him dead where he bed down. Him coming back and giving me a redemption chance was amazing to say the least!! Thus giving him the name of “Redemption Buck”

Re: The redemption Buck
Congratulations wrinkleneck !!
We all know how hard to get a second chance on a buck let alone a mature buck. Good call hanging in there. Very glad you did, and happy you got it done.
