Do deer abandon islands when water freezes?
Hey everyone new member here. I live in NW Minnesota and the water in the swamps are now frozen solid. Will deer abandon the dry islands when the water freezes? Has anybody ever hunted the dry islands with success in swamps when the water is frozen?

They still use the islands for bedding or even feeding if there is good browse on them. Some islands even have acorns left on them and the deer will dig thru the snow for them. It's all about available cover and hunting pressure. Open islands without much thick cover obviously won't hold any deer. Remote islands with no pressure will almost always have deer bedding somewhere on them.

I think this was brought up a week ago or so and someone had mention they will abandon them temporarilly as soon as they freeze but will come back to them.

No experience with freezing down here but I have seen great islands and lagoons go to turds when it dries out to only be the cats meow again after a couple inches of rain.
