Age this rub
I'm trying to figure out if this rub is from this year or not. There is a lot of historical rubbing around here its a little area of saplings and small trees on the edge of brush lot.
I looked for shavings on top of leaves but couldn't see any. But leaves are dropping heavy right now.

Re: Age this rub
Looks like its from at least last year. Scrape the bark off the same type of tree with the back of your knife or something sharp and you'll know what a more fresh rub looks like on the type of tree.

Re: Age this rub
Thats a great thread!
One thing I always look for is exposed cambium thats still green indicating its a couple days old. If theres no exposed green I'll scratch the bark approaching the top of the rub and if the green goes right up to the very edge then browns I assume it's around a week. This dosent work very well on conifers but 95% of rubs in my area are hardwoods.
I guess I should do my own study to get a better dating system.
