Wisconsin Rut Reports

Unread postby Dewey » Tue Oct 22, 2019 4:15 am

Things should start cranking up here pretty soon. Let's hear your reports from around the state. Scrapes, aggressive rubs, seeking, chasing, cruising it's all good info.

Don't need specific areas but county or at least NW, NE, SE or SW part of state would be nice. Always enjoyed following this in previous years as the rut progressed around the state.

Northcentral

Small rubs and small scrapes are popping up in some areas. I sense we are at the point when bucks are stretching their legs a bit but not seeking or chasing yet.

Marinette County-
A few scrapes found. No rubs.
Have seen an increase in buck activity on the cameras in daylight which is good.
It’ll only get better

Dane County
Had a 3 year old chasing a group of 10 baldies. He wasn't very serious about it though. He seemed more interested in the clover. But he definitely entered the field downwind of the doe group and checked them.

I definitely had some pre rut activity this weekend in NW WI. 2-3 year old bucks making scrapes and rubs right in front of me and also pushing around a couple of does (but still eating too). Also had another buck that was definitely cruising at around 5:30 pm. He was covering some serious ground in plain daylight.

North central Wis.

Small scrapes opening up. Haven't seen the usual big boy one opened yet though (maybe he's no longer with us)

SE WI

Small scrapes opening. Looks like territory marking, not big community scrapes. Like within the last week or so from the look of the dirt and tracks

Haven't run into a pile of super fresh rubs, but a lot from this year.

Wait, I'm on the trail of a hot two-legged doe. Does that count?

Figured you would steer clear of that for awhile especially during the hunting season. :o

That's what I was planning on. Being free and clear.

But Godwworks in mysterious ways and she met my criteria of being ok with hunting. She has hunted in the past herself and her brother is apparently a very good hunter. So she's generous with hunting time. It's really nice actually in a lot of ways.

OK but please keep those rut reports to yourself. This is a family friendly site.
