So I was scouting my way in. I'm seeing sign, but not quite enough sign to set up yet, and all of the sudden I kick up a small buck about ten yards away from me. I pull back and get ready incase there's another and sure enough a really nice buck jumps up and runs to about 30 yards from me and stops. I take the shot and my arrow hits a branch and goes high. No blood and arrow no where to be found.
So my question is what would you do here? I know he did not smell me, or see me, but he definitely heard me. Knowing exactly where his bed is would you try to set up on it or try to stalk in from a different angle? I'll probably give that spot one more go, but I wanna hear how others would handle it?
Hope season is going good for everyone!

So, you don't think you hit it, but you can't find the arrow?
Twigs in my hair, don't care.

Saw the arrow go high and into bushes. No blood anywhere looked for a good while

He also stood there for a moment after I shot.

If they return, they’ll be on alert and most likely smell your scent from arrow/blood searching
They will return downwind from where they left to scent check the area before re-entering
If you’re gonna setup for a possible return, setup to be able to shoot them while sxent checking
Good luck
