Limping deer with tail tucked
Just pulled a card this morning and there was a doe on it with a pretty good limp and its tail tucked up tight. It's clearly injured but is the tucked tail an indication of a pretty serious injury?
The limp is on the far side so I can't see the extent of the injury.

Video doesn’t show up.
Generally I associate that body language as a gut shot.

She doesn't look too too bad, but could be a gutshot, or more likely the opposite side rear quarter... Can't see it from the angle and it appears that is what she is favoring. I would absolutely put her out of her misery if given the opportunity though.. I would even try to hunt her down. Injured deer don't travel far. You got her on camera, she's going to be close.

Im like 90% sure of where she's bedding but its across a road on property I cant hunt. Not sure I'll be able to get a crack at her.

Agreed.
I’m thinking more along the lines of hit by car by the way she is walking. The top of that left rear leg looks like it is bigger than the right. Swollen? Hard to tell.

Re: Limping deer with tail tucked
Passed up some better spots to sit as close to the bedding as I could legally get tonight. Nothing happened until I lowered my bow. A deer came walking through at about 10 yards. Too dark to tell of it was her and couldnt hear a noticeable limp. Might try it again next week.
I moved the camera to the other side of the trail facing an apple tree. Hope to get a shot of her left.

I was thinking arrow or car to the ham aswell. It was just that tucked tail that had me wondering. Made me think she's in pretty bad shape

To me the tucked tail just means she is in a lot of pain. Tensing up like we do.
They are tough critters and fast healers. My guess is that you will see her again on your side of the road.
If you take her let us know what you find.

Re: Limping deer with tail tucked
Looks like a leg injury to me.
If it were a gut shot she'd likely not be moving at all as she doesn't appear to be concerned about anything chasing her.
And she's clearly favoring a leg.
I'm thinking bad bruise, sprain or fracture to the lower right rear leg; maybe a misstep between rocks or not-quite-missed by a car?

Re: Limping deer with tail tucked
Just watched it again; looks like what could be a deep cut (?) under the dewclaws on that right rear leg.
And I'm fairly certain that's the injured leg; she doesn't let any weight onto it for very long before lurching the other leg forward.
Might have gotten hung up on a fence wire or clipped by a really errant broadhead.
Of course this is always nothing more than "educated speculation."
(We need a post-mortem to verify or discount.)
Go get her!
